Stealing a Nation

MelbournePhilosopher

I just went to the launch of the John Pilger film festival, presented as a Heart of Philosophy event. I learnt the following things

* Diego Garcia is an island, from which 2000 citizens were forcibly and illegally removed
* There are close parallels with Australia's stolen generation in many respect
* Politicians will lie, husbands will philander, but trust me on the sunscreen
* We live in the context of a morally corrupt society, and the power structure is not immune
* Media spin is powerful -- on both sides!
* Honesty is obvious when you see it

Cheers,
-MP

John Pilger eh? I wil read up on Diego Garcia. However I really would not trust much that came from anything connected to John Pilger. He has a peculiar world view which is generally that of people who have enough money and/or influence to criticsize those who have to actually make the decisions, without actually having to live in that world or live with those decisions. Generally he can't even get his facts right (much like my spelling).

I suggest getting your facts straight before running of your mouth!

During the 1960s, in high secrecy, the Labor government of Harold Wilson conspired with two American administrations to "sweep" and "sanitize" the islands: the words used in the American documents. Files found in the National Archives in Washington and the Public Record Office in London provide an astonishing narrative of official lying all too familiar to those who have chronicled the lies over Iraq.
